Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
The Controls Assurance Team is a newly established dedicated team focused on enhancing risk management, improving operational efficiency, supporting decision making and strengthening stakeholder confidence through control assurance activities within the NDIA. The Controls Assurance Team is a part of the Risk, Audit and Resilience Division.
We are seeking candidates to fill an EL1 Assistant Director Controls Assurance role. This is a leadership position of a newly formed team that will play a role in developing the Controls Assurance Service offering.

As the EL1 Assistant Director Controls Assurance you will lead a team defining assurance strategies that lead to a range of activities such as control design and effectiveness reviews, control maturity assessments, health checks, deep dives, stage gate reviews, root cause analysis and assurance. You will contribute to refining processes and ensuring ongoing program success and continuous improvement.
Key duties include but are not limited to:
- Leading and fostering a collaborative team environment, guiding your team to build capability through coaching and performance feedback to achieve team objectives.
- Anticipating emerging issues, developing innovative solutions and applying expertise across a broad range of controls assurance.
- Conducting comprehensive risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and control gaps and developing targeted mitigation strategies.
- Building professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to articulate complex control issues and recommendations in simple language.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following desirable skills and experience within their resume and application:
- Experience shaping strategic thinking, demonstrating sound judgement undertaking objective systematic analysis and evidence-based conclusions.
- Cultivation of productive working relationships across stakeholders and within the team, sharing information and working collaboratively, recognising contributions and cooperation.
- Experience building organisational capability and leveraging professional expertise, steering a developing team and their emerging capabilities whilst implementing change where appropriate.
- Demonstrated personal drive, initiative and innovation, taking responsibility for progressing objectives.
Relevant qualification such as CRISC, CISA, CISSP, CIA or Data visualisation, Governance, Compliance, Risk management, Project management, Fraud control and investigations, Business continuity management (BIA), Control assessment (root cause analysis, control design, control testing) will be highly regarded.
This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Applicants unable to meet this requirement will not be considered.

While this role is ideally performed from Deakin – ACT, Surry Hills or Paramatta – NSW, Richmond or Geelong -VIC, flexible working arrangements may be considered.
We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment check including a National Coordinated Criminal History Check and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
