The Commission leads and coordinates national improvements in healthcare safety and quality. It works in partnership with patients, carers, clinicians, the Australian, state and territory health systems, the private sector, managers and healthcare organisations to achieve a safe, high-quality and sustainable health system.

The Measurement of Improvement Program (the Program) is responsible for a range of projects to support the meaningful use of indicators, analysis and data, including clinical quality registries and clinical trials. These projects aim to support the feedback of safety and quality data to multiple levels of the health system including consumers, clinicians, administrators and funders. This work also supports the Commission’s national health information role and commitments under the National Health Reform Act 2011, and the National Health Reform and Information Agreements.

This position will contribute to the work of the Indicator Development team within the Program area with a focus on the on the development, revision and implementation support of safety and quality indicators. This position will manage and support a range of work projects including the development of the National Safety and Quality Measurement Framework, patient-reported outcome measurement in maternity populations, and well as other activities to support the delivery of the Commission’s work plan. This will include conducting research, interpretation of information and data from a variety of sources, project management, policy development, development of indicators and datasets, stakeholder management, facilitation of meetings, and collaborating with other relevant programs within the Commission.

Duties of the Senior Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conduct research and analysis, including literature reviews, environmental scans, interviews and focus groups to inform policy and program direction.

Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, advisory group papers, correspondence, presentations and other documents for a range of audiences on complex healthcare issues.

Undertake the complete range of project management activities including procurement and contract management activities to achieve the objectives of the work plan.

Participate in, and present to, committee meetings, forums and workshops.

Provide secretariat support for committees and expert groups, including preparation letters of invitation, agenda papers, minutes and other administrative tasks where required.

Contribute to the development of data sets and indicators as required by the Commission to deliver on the work plan.

Consult with experts and stakeholders including the coordination of formal consultation processes, where required, to achieve the objectives of the work plan.

Liaise with and foster productive relations with Commission staff and with other agencies, clinical organisations, consumer groups, government authorities, the private health sector and professional organisations bodies.

Undertake other duties as required/directed.

The successful candidate will have:

Demonstrated understanding of the development and use of health information to monitor healthcare quality and support quality improvement.

Excellent written communication skills, including capacity to articulate complex concepts and policy issues in a coherent, accessible way.

Excellent interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to develop productive working relationships with a wide range of individuals and interest groups.

Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to successfully deliver on complex tasks, within the required timeframes and work across multiple projects.

Well-developed research and analytical skills, including the ability to conduct literature reviews, and translate data, evidence and research findings into succinct reports or recommendations.
