Queensland Heart Specialists are looking for an experienced and dedicated cardiac sonographer to join our rapidly expanding cardiology practice at The Wesley Hospital on a full-time basis.

Queensland Heart Specialists is a new and rapidly growing cardiology practice based at the Wesley Private Hospital in Brisbane, offering a comprehensive range of cardiac services. Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional care, utilising state-of-the-art technology, and fostering a patient-centred approach. We are seeking highly experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Cardiac Sonographers to join our team and help us build a high-quality cardiology service that focuses on achieving outstanding patient outcomes.

Role Description:

As a Cardiac Sonographer at Queensland Heart Specialists, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality echocardiograms (including both dobutamine and exercise stress echo) in both our newly renovated specialist rooms and on hospital wards. You will work closely with our team of cardiologists to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment plans for our patients.

Our expert cardiologists include a comprehensive mix of advanced imaging, structural and interventional, electrophysiology, and heart failure specialists. As such, we offer a diverse case mix of inpatient and outpatient echo cases, including providing comprehensive echo support for the Wesley Structural Heart program (TAVI, Mitra-Clip, Tri-Clip, Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), and paravalvular leak closures, left atrial appendage occluders (LAAO), and involvement in other novel structural heart interventions and clinical trials).

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated cardiac sonographer to join our team on a full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Independently perform high-quality transthoracic and stress echocardiograms (dobutamine and exercise) in both Queensland Heart Specialists outpatient rooms and on hospital wards.

Work closely with our imaging cardiologists to interpret echocardiograms and provide detailed and timely reports using a streamlined reporting system.

Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

Ensure the highest standards of patient care, comfort, and safety during procedures.

Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and supplies, ensuring optimal functionality.

Participate in continuous professional development and stay up to date on the latest advancements in cardiac imaging.

Opportunity to fit and analyse Holter monitors (reimbursed separately) if desired.

Highly Competitive and Above-Award remuneration package as both a sub-contractor (based on a $90 fee-per-echo arrangement with a minimum of six (6) guaranteed scans per day) with plans to transition to a permanent position (based on upper level HP4 Queensland Health banding depending on candidate experience and qualifications).

All scans performed on site at the Wesley Hospital. Our rooms are easily accessible by public transport (Auchenflower train station stops directly outside the Wesley Medical Centre) as well as on-site parking available. There may be opportunities to scan at non-hospital-based rooms in future.

Involvement in Research: We are a registered clinical trial site and provide high-quality Echocardiography support for several clinical trials (including in Pulmonary Hypertension and Structural Heart Disease) in collaboration with the Wesley Research Institute

About You:

Relevant qualifications in cardiac sonography.

Current accreditation with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR).

Own professional indemnity insurance.

Strong clinical skills and experience in performing a wide range of cardiac ultrasound examinations independently including stress echo (dobutamine and exercise).

Experience with structural heart cases (TAVI, Mitra-Clip, etc) is desirable but not essential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

High attention to detail and pride in the accuracy of your work.

Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous learning.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
