81 Bay and BAIX are in search for a hands-on Head Chef to lead our culinary team and create an exceptional dining experience like no other. The position requires a well-seasoned Head chef or an up-and-coming Senior Sous Chef ready for the ride of a lifetime.
As the Pre-Opening Chef, you will be the creative force behind our gastronomic journey. With your exceptional culinary expertise and innovative spirit, you will shape our menu, curating a symphony of flavors that will captivate our guests' palates. From conceptualizing tantalizing dishes to sourcing the finest ingredients, your passion for culinary excellence will shine through in every bite.
Head Chef – Baix Restaurant
Reporting directly to Owner, Ian Curley, this role is perfect for an experienced, passionate, and highly organised chef ready to lead with creativity and precision.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
Maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene with a meticulous eye for detail.
Lead from the front with a calm, hands-on approach motivating the team to consistently produce exceptional dishes.
Drive menu innovation by developing new ideas, dishes, concepts, and seasonal menus that excite and delight guests.
Demonstrate strong management skills with a focus on accurate costing, budgeting, and operational efficiency.
Oversee staff recruitment, training, and ongoing development to build a high-performing kitchen team.
Showcase proven experience in high-end venues with a solid understanding of the demands and dynamics of a successful kitchen.
Thrive under pressure, maintaining composure and focus even during the busiest service periods.
Provide strong leadership that inspires collaboration, excellence, and consistency across the team.
Ensure strict compliance with hygiene and safety regulations at all times.
The Successful Candidate Will:
Hold a Certificate IV or Diploma in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification).
Have a deep passion for food, with extensive knowledge of quality local produce.
Be growth-minded, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate the team.
Bring a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar Head Chef role.
Perform exceptionally under pressure, remaining cool, decisive, and solutions-focused.
