About the Opportunity
Council is seeking a versatile and enthusiastic team member to join our Works Department in the role of Works Support Officer. The Works Department is responsible for the safe, effective and efficient delivery of routine and emergency maintenance and construction projects related to the capital works program. The department maintenance spans the municipality’s roads, bridges, drainage, parks, reserves, cemeteries and public facilities.
The Works Support Officer provides support to the Director Works, Team Leader Road Services, Team Leader Parks & Urban Amenities and the greater Works team in a varied and dynamic role. Duties will include:
Providing technical advice to assist maintenance programs and construction projects
Conducting research, preparing and presenting information
Procurement of materials and goods
Assistance with asset identification, divestment and replacement programs
Administration of annual supply contracts and minor projects
Preparation of traffic management plans and guidance schemes
Assisting with the preparation, review and enhancement of relevant safety system documentation
What you will need to succeed
To be successful you will have a qualification in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction, Asset Management/Maintenance Planning, Procurement and Contracting, or a related field. Experience in a similar role will be highly regarded, particularly in a local government context.
You will be confident in planning, procurement and project delivery and have the administrative and organisation skills to manage multiple tasks and keep accurate records. Focused but flexible, you are able to work independently and also contribute to a diverse and adaptable team.
Your understanding of local government processes, civil infrastructure maintenance practices and relevant legislation, standards and safety requirements will allow you to provide technical advice and support to the team, while continuing to build your expertise through research and reporting.
What we will offer you
This is a full time permanent position based at Council’s offices at Westbury, a short 25 minute drive from the city of Launceston.
Annual salary will be negotiated subject to applicant’s suitability within a range of $79,963 and $88,790 plus a salary increase in line with Council’s Enterprise Agreement 2025 when finalised. Council currently also pay an additional 3.5% above the amount required by the Superannuation Guarantee legislation (total amount currently 15.5% from 1 July 2025 in accordance with Council’s Enterprise Agreement 2022).
