About the role
Are you passionate about integrated water management, sustainable urban design, and climate adaptation? We’re looking for a skilled Integrated Water Management Officer to join our Sustainable Built Environment team.
You’ll play a key role in delivering our Integrated Water Management Strategy – Towards a Water Sensitive City 2040, working across council to ensure water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) is embedded in planning, capital works and project design and delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Support project delivery of IWM initiatives such as wetlands and stormwater harvesting, including consultant oversight across feasibility, design and construction
- Provide early and ongoing IWM/WSUD input into Council’s capital works program, including design reviews and constructability assessments.
- Assist the ESD team in ensuring planning applicants meet water-related sustainability requirements
- Liaise with internal teams including Planning & Design, Community Infrastructure Delivery, and Operations to ensure WSUD assets are maintained and performing as intended.
- Support the preparation of project briefs, tenders, grant applications, contracts, and other documentation.
- Contribute to strategic thinking and advocacy, including sustainable design integration, monitoring and compliance
- Provide community consultation and technical advice related to IWM issues, including participation in briefings and stakeholder workshops.
- Promote a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement across projects and teams.
You’ll be based in the Sustainable Built Environment Unit and work closely with the IWM Lead and ESD Officers, with strong connections across Capital Works and other teams.
This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful environmental outcomes and help position Merri-bek as a leader in integrated water management.
Skills and experience require to perform the role
- Qualifications relevant to Integrated Water Management including environmental engineering, project management or other relevant disciplines
- Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Integrated Water Management
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence internal and external stakeholders
