Casual Kennel Attendant
Coronation Kennels and Cattery
Posted 2 days ago
A Casual Kennel Attendant is required to work up to 5 variable shifts in a 7 day week at our facility at Macksville. Each day starts at 7am and finishes between 8.30pm (winter time) and 9pm(summertime) with the majority of shifts 3 to 4 hours in duration.
Boarding facilities are noisy, sometimes a bit smelly but if you are passionate about animals this is something that really will not bother you.
· A love of animals is essential, remembering that there are really good animals, good animals and sometimes really naughty animals. Aggressive animals are not accepted!!.
· Providing daily care and supervision for boarding animals, including feeding, bathing and cleaning kennels and cat suites to an extremely high standard both inside and outside.
· At a later date you will be required to assist with the reception of duties, including answering phones, check-in and check-out procedures thus providing excellent customer service to pet owners.
Duties are about 80% cleaning but with all the mod cons of everyday life we normally find our day relatively easy. Hmmm..... bit harder during periods of rain but you are not expected to be outdoors to work in the rain. Having stated that you do not work in the rain, the pets are accommodated in 4 separate buildings so wet weather gear is provided for your convenience when moving between buildings.
Our day starts at 7am with letting the dogs out for toileting purposes followed by brekkie and medication, if required, then a room clean and floor mop, if necessary.
Bedding check and re-make, water bucket check and clean if necessary and finally the poopa scooping.
At 8am the new pets begin checking-in and some pets check-out. Kennels for pets who have checked out are thoroughly cleaned, walls wiped down, beds and all bedding completely changed as well as water dishes. The dirty bedding is to be washed and hung out to dry.
Around about 10am we close until 4pm but afternoon staff start at about 3.30pm letting dogs in and out, bringing the washing inside, folding and putting away, preparing night meals, customer service with the pets checking in and out and kennel cleaning. Tea is normally served about 5.30 pm and on occasions the administration of medication is required.
Initial shifts are Monday to Thursday 7am to 10am or 11am and possibly Tuesday afternoon 4pm to 6pm. You are paid at the Miscellaneous Award rate for the training period of three months then at an agreed rate for the duration of your employment.
A uniform and shoes/boots are provided after a period of three months.
