Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation is a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving brain health, cognitive development, and educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We work with families, youth, and communities to deliver culturally grounded, neuroscience-informed programs that build strong minds and bright futures.
We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Specialist Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique environment that values both cultural knowledge and cutting-edge educational approaches.
Location: Inala, Oxley and Youth Detention Centres
Employment Type: Full-time or Part-time (negotiable)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications + superannuation + salary packaging benefits
Start Date: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis
What you'll be doing
Deliver engaging, trauma-informed learning experiences tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, including those disengaged from mainstream education or transitioning from youth detention.
Adapt curriculum and learning strategies to support students with a range of cognitive, social, and emotional needs.
Collaborate with Yiliyapinya program facilitators, health professionals, and community Elders to deliver culturally relevant education.
Use assessment tools and data to track progress and inform educational and employment strategies.
Support the development of educational resources and contribute to continuous improvement of Yiliyapinya programs.
Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement, documenting outcomes and contributing to reporting requirements.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Education, or relevant specialist field with recognised teaching qualifications.
Current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain).
Experience delivering engaging, innovative lessons with a strong understanding of differentiation and inclusion.
Demonstrated commitment to, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, knowledges, and community priorities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build relationships across diverse communities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Flexibility, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills
