The Role

This role involves the application of Systems Engineering expertise and technical knowledge to a range of activities that support the in-service sustainment and capability evolution of particular C4ISREW ground support systems for Army Aviation.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with other team members and external Industry partners, in the conduct of a range of duties including:

  • Applying Systems Engineering knowledge and expertise to the conduct of C4ISREW ground system sustainment and/or design evolution activities, across the engineering life cycle.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, investigating Systems Engineering concepts, delivering and managing specifications and resources in support of the Defence materiel capability lifecycle.
  • Investigating, analysing and/or reporting on materiel system defects and requirements, and developing and implementing recommendations to address issues.
  • Exercising formal Engineering Authority in accordance with any delegations assigned under the applicable Engineering Management System.
  • Developing and/or assessing materiel system technical and design packages in accordance with applicable procedures, including scoping, planning, reviewing, determining recommendations, and contributing to the implementation of actions.
  • Applying engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties, leading to consideration of these in planning, decision-making and priority setting activities.
  • Monitoring that the safety aspects of materiel systems are considered and incorporated into Systems Engineering activities.
  • Evaluating that materiel systems meet applicable requirements and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Tailoring your communication style and language to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

There may be an occasional requirement for domestic travel in this role.

Note: This position will be required to access United States (US) Export Controlled material and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. About our Team

The Aviation C4ISREW (Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare), Training and Support Systems Management Unit (ACTSS MU) is a specialist team within the Utility Helicopter Systems Program Office (UHSPO). The ACTSS MU team is responsible for the management, delivery and sustainment of a range of cross-platform, cross-functional and common aviation systems supporting the aviation capability as a whole. The ACTSS MU team is located in South East Queensland, with offices at Victoria Barracks Brisbane and Swartz Barracks, Oakey.

Our Unit is built on small teams delivering and supporting a diverse range of systems and capabilities from complex mission management networks through to deployable refuelling systems, training systems such as simulation devices through to helicopter underwater escape training, and extending into both combat and safety equipment, all underpinned by passionate logistics and commercial specialists.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Sound working knowledge of Systems Engineering concepts and practices.
  • Previous experience with complex electronics, software and ICT systems.
  • Previous experience working within a technical regulatory framework or Engineering Management System.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of Defence and external stakeholders of diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail in all aspects of their work.
  • Flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment.
  • A strong commitment to professional development and the desire to gain and apply new knowledge to workplace activities.
