So what does a Marine Ranger do?

A Marine Ranger within The Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region plays a crucial role in protecting and managing marine and coastal environments. Marine Rangers are responsible for the conservation of marine parks and protected area islands within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and Queensland's Great Sandy and Moreton Bay marine parks.

This role offers hands-on experience across diverse Marine Ranger duties, while you complete training to gain the essential skills for a future ranger career.

As a Marine Ranger you'll make a real impact:

• Support park operations, including visitor management, law enforcement, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
• Enhance visitor experiences by providing information, building infrastructure and maintaining park amenities.
• Assist with environmental protection through fire management, invasive species control and habitat restoration.
• Collaborate with First Nations communities and team members to support inclusive, culturally respectful park management.

If you're energetic, enthusiastic, committed to the environment and ready to work hard, we'll not only provide valuable on-the-job experience but also cover the cost of additional courses for you, including:

• Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (priority course).
• Chainsaw operations level 1 & 2.
• Fire training.
• Operation of a 4wd, including towing.
• Authorised Officer training.
• Senior First Aid.
• In-water safety training.
