Lead with purpose. Support families. Strengthen your community.

At Banyule City Council, we're committed to supporting every child and family to thrive. We're looking for two Maternal and Child Health Team Leaders, one to lead our Universal MCH team, and another to oversee our Enhanced MCH and specialist programs, including breastfeeding services and sleep outreach. This is a great opportunity to join our passionate team and play a pivotal leadership role in enhancing the health, wellbeing, and development of our youngest residents and their families.

In each vital role, you'll work closely with the MCH and Immunisation Services Coordinator to lead a dedicated team of MCH professionals, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care and support across the Universal, Enhanced, Breastfeeding Support, Sleep Outreach, and Parent Education programs.

Why this role matters:

You will be at the forefront of driving innovation, best practice, and continuous improvement in maternal and child health services—ensuring every family receives the support they need, when they need it. Your leadership will directly influence the outcomes for children and their caregivers, shaping a healthier, more connected community.

What you'll do:

  • Lead with purpose: Provide day-to-day operational and clinical leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration, reflection and excellence.
  • Drive improvement: Champion service planning, evaluation, and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with all clinical, legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Empower people: Support, mentor, and develop MCH staff and graduates, helping them grow professionally while delivering exceptional care.
  • Collaborate with impact: Build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including the Department of Health, Orange Door, local hospitals, and early years services.
  • Put community first: Guide services that are responsive to the evolving needs of families in Banyule, ensuring children have the best start in life.

These positions are part of Banyule's Leadership Network – you'll have opportunities to grow your skills and experience of leadership in a Local Government context and develop your skills as an organisational leader beyond your role-based expertise.

About you:

You are a skilled and passionate Maternal and Child Health Nurse with proven leadership experience and a strong clinical background. You'll be AHPRA registered and hold a current CPR and first aid certification. You're deeply committed to family-centred care and understand how high-quality MCH services positively shape a child's early development.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, are solutions-focused, and bring a proactive approach to managing operational and strategic challenges. Most importantly, you're driven by the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. You also have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to discuss, build trust and resolve issues of concern to staff and service users.
  • Understanding of the current context in which MCH Services operate, especially around policies, guidelines, standards of practice and legislation that applies to the service.
  • Sound experience in leadership including an ability to lead, motivate and develop team members
  • Demonstrated ability to support the development and implementation of key changes in MCH service delivery that align people, process and service
  • Competence in program planning, data interpretation, reporting and quality improvement

Mandatory Pre-employment checks:

  • Driver's License

We offer:

  • Salary of $108,878.84 per annum plus super (for comparison at full time this would be $136,098.56 per annum plus super) plus relevant qualification allowance.
