An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and community-focused individual to join the office of the Member for Mayo. Rebekha Sharkie MP is seeking applications for a full-time Electorate Officer B, based in Mount Barker. This contract is for 12 months, with the opportunity for extension. This role requires an understanding of the Australian Parliament and the responsibilities of government, and the unique needs and priorities of the Mayo electorate.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to constituent enquiries, both written and by phone, with empathy, efficiency, and professionalism
Manage and resolve complex constituent matters in a timely and respectful manner
Liaise effectively with government departments, local councils, and community organisations
Monitor funding opportunities and grant programs, and prepare correspondence on behalf of the Member
Undertake a range of administrative and electorate-related tasks as required
Key Skills and Attributes:
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
A sound understanding of Australia’s system of government
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a small, dynamic team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in IT systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks in a fast-paced environment

Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
An additional optional allowance of up to $13,933 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable
An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension. The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
