Systems Safety Engineer

Are you an experienced Systems Safety Engineer looking to make an impact within Australia's defence industry?

Kinexus is partnering with multiple specialist defence primes who are actively engaged in long-standing, prominent land programas for the Australian Army, naval programs for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and aerospace programs for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), ensuring the safety and reliability of future land, maritime and air platforms and systems.

This is a permanent opportunity, and the position offers flexibility while allowing you to make a meaningful contribution to Defence and national security.

The Role:

• Develop and implement system safety frameworks in accordance with Defence standards
• Conduct functional hazard analysis, risk assessments, safety case development, and safety assurance activities.
• Perform Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
• Support design safety reviews, compliance assessments, and independent safety audits
• Work closely with engineers to ensure human factors, software safety, and reliability engineering principles are integrated
• Work closely with Defence stakeholders and program managers to ensure mission-critical safety compliance

Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Engineering within Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or similar
• Active NV1 (or higher) Security Clearance - Mandatory
• Strong background in Systems Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering lifecycle, Reliability Engineering and any related tooling/processes.
• Exposure to Defence projects, ideally within the Land/Maritime/Naval space.
• Experience with hazard logs, FMECA, FHA, PSSA/SSA, and safety case development
• Experience working alongside Human Factors, both ergonomic and Human Machine Interface (HMI).
• Familiarity with relevant Defence safety standards.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communications and technical leadership skills
• Good technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
