About the Position
The Research Project Coordinator (Island Biodiversity) will play an important role in a new research project, funded through the Australian Research Council Discovery Program, on the biodiversity of the Northern Territory’s islands. This project will focus on the biodiversity of the vast number of north Australian Islands, almost all owned and managed by First Nations peoples.
The purpose of the role is to coordinate the fieldwork for this exciting project and the associated operational planning, as well as permits, data collection, data management and reporting. This role will also work with other members of the team and partner organisations on project design and engagement with Indigenous communities and organisations. This position will bring opportunities to contribute to the development of data collection and data management resources, field surveys, data analysis and training in wildlife survey methods. There is scope to tailor some aspects of the role depending on the appointee’s interests in research, environmental monitoring, management, or training.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the environmental monitoring or biodiversity conservation sectors, especially in northern Australian environments.
• Demonstrated experience with wildlife survey techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to safely undertake fieldwork in physically demanding (e.g. hot, humid) environments.
• Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to plan and lead field operations.
• Significant experience engaging with non-Government organisations, Traditional Owners and community-based ranger groups.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage datasets and undertake basic analyses and presentation of environmental data.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate on environmental and scientific topics in a cross-cultural context.
• Experience in the safe operation of four-wheel drive vehicles.

First Nations people with experience in natural resource management, environmental research or land and sea management are strongly encouraged to apply. Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 7. The base salary will be in the range of $93,475 - $102,606 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $109,365 - $120,049per annum, including 17% superannuation.
