About Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC)

Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC) is a community-controlled health service located in the Northern Territory, approximately 350km northeast of Alice Springs. Serving the community of Ampilatwatja and two nearby outstations, AHC delivers holistic, culturally respectful care to over 650 residents. The Centre operates under strong governance from local traditional owners, with an experienced clinical team comprising General Practitioners, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and support staff. AHC is deeply committed to improving long-term health outcomes and offers a rare opportunity to work on the country in an environment where your clinical skills and cultural sensitivity directly contribute to stronger, healthier communities.

About the Opportunity

We're looking for Remote Area Nurses to join our multidisciplinary team based in Ampilatwatja, NT. This role offers flexible work arrangements, including full-time and job share. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (37.5 hr week), with participation in a rotating on-call roster outside clinic hours.

New to remote? We encourage clinicians with minimum 5 years ED experience to consider a career in remote nursing. We will provide opportunities for upskilling.

Based primarily in our community clinic, you'll also provide regular outreach to two nearby outstations (~40km away), with occasional school and home visits. This role requires a high degree of clinical responsibility, allowing you to utilise your full skill set across emergency response, chronic disease management, and remote outreach.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

Delivering high-quality primary care, emergency support, and chronic disease management

Participating in outreach services and community health promotion

Responding to after-hours calls while on roster, including urgent assessments and emergency care

Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and adhering to infection control standards

Collaborating with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, GPs, and allied health staff to ensure patient-centred outcomes

Contributing to a culturally safe and inclusive care model

You will also need to demonstrate:

A strong understanding of Aboriginal health, chronic disease management, and culturally safe care

Familiarity with Communicare or similar electronic medical record (EMR) systems

The ability to work with an extended scope of practice and a high level of autonomy

In addition, you must hold the following licences/certifications:

A current Australian Manual Driver’s Licence (and the confidence to drive a manual 4WD on unsealed roads)

a current Ochre Card (NT working with children check)

ALS (Advanced Life Support)

Immunisation certification (AGV)

IV competency

The following qualifications and certifications will be highly regarded:

iStat and QAAMS pharmacotherapy, and Paediatric Emergency Care qualifications

REC (Remote Emergency Care) and MEC (Maternity Emergency Care) certifications

Earn a base salary of $138,859.50 per year (equivalent to $71.21/hour for 37.5 hr week), plus super, on-call and overtime entitlements, and a range of additional benefits including:
