The Position

We are seeking a Technical Officer to join the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN) team, supporting a research project on canola harvest index in partnership with NSW DPIRD. Based at ANU, this role involves propagating and phenotyping canola plants in controlled environments, using advanced methods such as 3D and hyperspectral imaging, gas exchange systems, robotic fluorophore systems, and carbohydrate analyses. The position also includes destructive harvesting, data management, analysis, and preparation for reporting and publication. The Technical Officer will ensure proper equipment maintenance, compliance with WHS standards, and assist with inventory coordination. Working closely with the APPN Manager, Director, and research teams, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative agricultural research with real-world impact.

The Person

The ideal candidate will hold a Certificate IV, Associate Diploma, or possess equivalent experience and/or training in plant handling and working in controlled plant growth facilities. You will have a strong understanding of plant phenotyping methodologies and demonstrated experience in collecting and managing complex, high-volume research data.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment. Strong organisational and IT skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records while meeting strict deadlines are critical to success in this role. A commitment to safety, compliance, and best practice in research environments is expected.
