The Senior Adviser, Aboriginal Employment and Development will play a key role in the review, development and implementation of a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives, which have been designed to meet the department's Aboriginal employment objectives and goals as stated in Pupangarli Marnmarnepu 'Owning Our Future' Aboriginal Self-Determination Reform Strategy 2020-2025.
This is a designated position under s.12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project manage the implementation of key workforce strategies and actions to support delivery of the Pupangarli Marnmarnepu 'Owning Our Future' Aboriginal Self-Determination Reform Strategy 2020-2025.
- Develop and implement talent and career development initiatives for Aboriginal staff
- Provide advice and coach managers of Aboriginal staff to provide a cultural safe working environment
- Collaborate with the Organisational Capability and DEIB team to develop learning and development to lift the Aboriginal Cultural Capability across the department
- Provide strategic solutions to attract, recruit, develop and retain Aboriginal staff.
- Provide expert advice on the development of appropriate recruitment and marketing strategies to increase the application rate of Aboriginal people for advertised positions.
- Prepare project plans, reports, briefs, and correspondence on outcomes relating to Pupangarli Marnmarnepu.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Victorian Traditional Owners and the broader Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Represent Aboriginal Self-Determination Reform on a wide range of internal and external Aboriginal and other employment committees, working groups, networks and forums as required.
- To practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships, and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Sound knowledge and understanding of current challenges, issues, opportunities and community aspirations amongst Aboriginal Victorian communities.
- Extensive experience in building networks with Aboriginal people living in Victoria, using knowledge of cultural and communication sensitivities.
- Experience in Human Resources management, recruitment, learning and development or a similar field.
- Demonstrated project management, budget management and stakeholder management of projects in an end-to-end capacity that has resulted in positive business outcomes
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Melbourne, with flexibility and hybrid work arrangements available.
