ABOUT THE ROLES
Ngalla Bidee Mia (NBM) is our Out of Home Care program, delivering family-led, trauma-informed, and culturally safe services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children, young people, and families.
Aboriginal Children and Young People are significantly overrepresented in the Out of Home Care system. Through NBM, we are committed to a family restoration model that works in partnership with families, carers, and communities to nurture Moorditj Djerripin Koorlungas (Strong, Happy Children).
We are seeking NBM Casual Support Workers to support NBM to deliver optimal rostering conditions across and overnight and weekend work. The NBM Casual Support Worker will be part of a pool covering Group Foster Care houses North and South of the River.
Reporting to the House Coordinator role, this position will is instrumental in ensuring therapeutic, culturally safe, and high-quality care for children and young people in Ngalla Bidee Mia. This role is place based as part of a suite of Group Foster Care homes, delivering support to children and young people across a 24/7 roster.
Responsibilities overview:
Applying a therapeutic care model grounded in cultural safety and child-centred practice.
Provide a structured and supportive home environment for children and young people.
Support children and young people to participate in discussions and decisions relating to their care.
Day to day management of house activities, including transport, cooking, cleaning, and meaningful activities with the children and young people.
Responding to behavioural, emotional, and developmental needs using trauma informed and culturally safe approaches with the support of the team and on-call service.
Follow the direction of the NBM Manager and House Coordinator in all aspects of care.
Maintain safety of the Group Foster Care home
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (ensure you address this criteria in your cover letter)
Commitment to empowering Aboriginal children and young people and their right to participate in discussions and decisions relating to their care.
Experience in Out of Home Care, child protection, or therapeutic residential/foster care services.
A relevant qualification and/or experience in a related field.
Ability to engage with Children and Young People, to work with them and their carers to manage their day to day lives and tasks associated i.e calendar of daily activities, school schedule, recreational activities etc.
Experience providing support to Children and Young People in residential settings, including understanding how to implement a practical daily living skills program into the houses.
Good self-care and reflective practice skills, knowledge of personal and professional boundaries.
Commitment to working as part of a rostered team to ensure a consistent model of care.
Excellent communication skills; with a focus on communicating with the Children and Young People in the care arrangement.
Demonstrated ability to provide safe environments for children and young people and protect them from abuse and neglect.
ESSENTIAL PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
WA Working with Children Card
National Police Clearance (dated within the last 3 months)
WA Drivers Licence
Department of Communities Clearance (we'll help successful candidates to apply)
