Purpose of the Position
The Youth Hub Program Support Trainee is a hands-on learning role designed to support the day-to-day activities of a vibrant, youth-led space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. Under the guidance of the Youth Hub Program Facilitator and experienced staff, the trainee will assist in delivering engaging programs, cultural activities, events and workshops that promote connection, learning and wellbeing.

Responsibilities and Duties
Program Support
- Help set up and pack down youth activities, workshops, and community events.
- Assist staff with the delivery of programs including sport, arts, cultural learning, life skills, and wellbeing activities.
- Support the collection of attendance records, feedback, and basic reporting tasks.
- Keep shared spaces tidy, safe, and welcoming for young people.
Youth Engagement
- Welcome and engage young people attending the Hub or programs in a friendly, respectful, and culturally safe manner.
- Support the inclusion of youth voices by encouraging feedback and participation.
- Help promote activities by distributing flyers, talking to community members, or supporting social media updates.
- Encourage participation in programs and help create a positive, inclusive environment.
- Be a positive role model and active presence during activities.
Cultural Connection
- Learn about and support the delivery of cultural activities including on-Country visits, language learning, and traditional practices (under the guidance of Elders or cultural leaders).
- Encourage pride in culture, identity, and belonging.
Learning and Development
- Participate actively in all training, mentoring, and supervision sessions provided during the traineeship.
- Work towards completing a Certificate III in Community Services (or related qualification).
- Develop skills in teamwork, communication, planning, and leadership through hands-on experiences.
Program Support & Safety
- Assist with preparation of materials, transport coordination, and session planning.
- Follow safety protocols and support safe group behaviour under supervision.
- Contribute to team discussions, feedback processes, and evaluations.
Risk & Quality Management
- Respond to incidents, complaints, and case escalations in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS).
- At all times work within CQID’s Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Manager and Programs Coordinator to meet program expectations.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (desirable or required for identified positions under Section 50D).
- Passion for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities.
- Willingness to learn about group facilitation, youth justice, trauma-informed practice and cultural safety.
- Reliable, respectful and able to take direction from senior staff and cultural mentors.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Strong cultural values, self-awareness and commitment to personal growth.
- Interest in working in youth programs, community development or education.
Desirable (not required)
- Previous volunteering or work experience in community, youth, or cultural settings.
- Ability to speak or understand an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander language.
- Participation in cultural programs or connection to local Country or kinship networks.
Training & Support Provided
- On-the-job training and supervision by experienced facilitators and practitioners.
- Support to complete formal study (e.g., Certificate III or IV in Community Services, Youth Work, or similar).
- Access to cultural mentoring and on-country learning opportunities.
- Team workshops, group supervision, and learning days.
Qualifications & Compliance (can be supported after starting)
- Working With Children Check (Blue Card - QLD) or willingness to apply
- Driver's Licence or plan to obtain one
- Police Check (National Police Certificate)
- First Aid Certificate and Youth Mental Health First Aid (can be provided)
