Purpose of the Position

The Youth Hub Programs Facilitator is responsible for the design, facilitation, and delivery of a dynamic schedule of programs, events, and activities at the Youth Hub, creating a safe and empowering space for young people aged 10-21 to connect, learn and grow.

The Facilitator plays a key leadership role in engaging local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, promoting cultural identity, supporting wellbeing, and delivering strengths-based programs focused on life skills, education, healing, leadership, and recreation. This role works closely with youth workers, community partners, Elders, and service providers to ensure the Hub is youth-led, culturally grounded, and community-driven.

Responsibilities and Duties

Program Development and Delivery

  • Design, plan and deliver a calendar of weekly activities, workshops, and events that reflect the interests and needs of local young people.
  • Incorporate culture, creative arts, sport, health, leadership, and life skills into programming.
  • Ensure all activities are trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally safe and inclusive. planning.

Youth Engagement and Participation

  • Build strong relationships with young people to foster trust, belonging and participation in Hub programs.
  • Facilitate youth voice and leadership opportunities through regular consultation and co-design.
  • Support young people to access additional services (e.g. education, health, justice, housing) when required.

Team Coordination

  • Supervise and support casual youth workers, facilitators, and volunteers delivering Hub activities.
  • Provide onboarding, mentoring and direction to ensure safe, professional, and culturally respectful program delivery.

Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Work closely with Elders, local community groups, schools, and service providers to support holistic programming.
  • Establish partnerships for guest workshops, health promotion sessions, and career pathways.
  • Represent the Hub in local networks, youth forums, and interagency meetings.

Risk & Quality Management

  • Ensure robust risk management frameworks are in place for working with young people with complex needs and offending behaviours.
  • Monitor service quality and lead continuous improvement processes.
  • Respond to incidents, complaints, and case escalations in accordance with departmental procedures.

Key Selection criteria

Essential

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is highly desirable for this role. In accordance with the program's commitment to cultural safety, community connection. and self-determination, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Non-Indigenous applicants will be considered only if no suitable Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates are identified in the initial recruitment round.
  • Experience planning and facilitating group programs with young people, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, youth development, and cultural safety.
  • Ability to build rapport, manage group dynamics, and respond to behavioural challenges with empathy and confidence.
  • Cultural competence and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being, and doing.
  • Highly organised, with skills in scheduling, planning, and risk management.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings or weekends when required for activities.
  • Strong connection to community.

Desirable

  • Understanding of Queensland Child Safety and Youth Justice systems, legislation, and diversionary approaches.
  • Experience working with ACCOs, Elders, or Traditional Owners in community settings.
  • Skills or qualifications in outdoor education, creative arts, sport/recreation, cultural practice, or group therapy.
  • Lived experience or strong connections to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience coordinating youth programs or community events, preferably in a similar setting.
  • Strong group facilitation skills and ability to design engaging, youth-led activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience with Youth Work, Community Services, Outdoor Recreation, Education, Social Work or relevant field delivering programs to youth at risk.
  • First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card – QLD).
  • Police Check (National Police Certificate)
