ACT Wildlife is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation which rescues and rehabilitates sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife with the goal of releasing them back into the wild.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve in a role as a Wildlife Phone Rescue and Animal Care Assistant. This position is critical in providing timely, accurate support to members of the public reporting injured or distressed wildlife, while also assisting with the daily care, rehabilitation, and well-being of animals within our facility.
This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to animal welfare, as well as the ability to manage urgent situations with empathy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Phone Rescue Coordination:
Respond promptly and professionally to wildlife rescue calls, emails, and messages from the public.
Gather accurate details of incidents, assess urgency, and provide guidance on appropriate next steps.
Coordinate with rescuers, transport volunteers, and veterinary teams as needed.
Maintain detailed records of incoming reports, rescue efforts, and outcomes using internal systems.
Animal Care Assistance:
Assist in the feeding, cleaning, and general husbandry of native wildlife in care, following established protocols.
Animal care and First Aid
Monitor animal behaviour and health, reporting any changes or concerns to senior staff.
Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety in all animal care areas.
Required Skills & Attributes:
Genuine passion for wildlife welfare.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially under pressure.
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Computer literacy, accurate data entry and office skills.
· Knowledge and experience with wildlife species and animal husbandry.
· Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of service to members of the public and wildlife carers.
· Ability to understand and follow policies and procedure
· Ability to work independently and show initiative.
· Current Drivers Licence for animal rescue and transport.
Qualifications & Experience:
Previous experience in animal care, wildlife rescue, or a related field preferred.
Training in wildlife handling or rescue coordination is an advantage.
Proficiency with phone/email systems and basic office software.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, or variable shifts as needed.
Working Conditions:
Office-based within an animal care environment.
Physical work including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Emotional resilience to handle wildlife emergencies and animal distress compassionately.
