This is a Permanent or Fixed Term appointment, at various hours. Fixed term appointments will have the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

Join a dedicated team providing a range of community-based health services across the region. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Community Health, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating primary health care for vulnerable children and families in the community. Collaborating with key stakeholders, you will advocate for those in need, ensuring they receive the necessary support and care. Your expertise will contribute to innovative solutions for complex health challenges while maintaining the highest standards of practice.

Overview of the Role:

In this position, you will act as a clinical leader and consultant to multidisciplinary health teams, advocating for vulnerable children and families. You will develop and manage systems ensuring those at risk receive appropriate community care or are guided toward specialist services. Engaging with a variety of stakeholders, you will promote a team-based approach to decision-making and implement quality improvement initiatives. Participation in research and supervision of nursing students will further enhance your contribution to healthcare excellence.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Exhibit exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills in child and community health.
  • Understand the principles of primary health care, determinants of health, and family-centred practice.
  • Possess a current WA C or C-A class driver’s licence, with the ability to travel within the region, including overnight stays.
  • Ideally hold a postgraduate qualification in child and community health and have experience working in a rural or remote environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and consultancy to the multidisciplinary health team, coordinating care for vulnerable children and families.
  • Develop and manage systems to ensure identified at-risk children receive appropriate care and support.
  • Actively engage with stakeholders to promote effective management of vulnerable children in the community.
  • Facilitate a multidisciplinary team approach to decision-making concerning health care delivery.
  • Lead quality improvement activities and contribute to program evaluation for child and school health projects.

This position is located in Kalgoorlie. Kalgoorlie is Australia’s largest Outback city where mining, history and bushland combine, located 595 km east-northeast of Perth.

Country Nursing and Midwifery Incentive Program

The Country Nursing & Midwifery incentive program is available to new and existing nurses and midwives - across a broad range of patient-facing roles - on fixed term or permanent contracts at eligible locations. Eligible nurses and midwives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in support over 12 months. The Goldfields region of the WA Country Health Service covers the Goldfields-Esperance Region of Western Australia. The region is located in the south eastern corner of Western Australia and covers 770,488 sq km (including offshore islands). The WA Country Health Service Goldfields consists of two main health campuses located in Kalgoorlie & Esperance, and three smaller hospitals located in Laverton, Leonora, and Norseman. The Goldfields is a culturally rich region with a number of Aboriginal communities spread out across the region, 16 distinct Aboriginal language groups and an Aboriginal population that represents 12.3 per cent of our total population, with 1 in 10 people, on average, identifying as Aboriginal – this in comparison to the state average of 3.6 per cent.
