About Western
Western Sydney University is a research-led, student-focused institution ranked among the top two per cent of universities worldwide. Our commitment to equity, excellence, and sustainability drives every aspect of our work—from innovative research and world-class teaching to impactful community engagement. Based in one of Australia’s most diverse and fastest-growing regions, we are deeply connected to our local and global communities.
About the School
The School of Medicine is committed to improving community health through contemporary, interdisciplinary, and community-engaged education and research. Our partnership with Charles Sturt University supports rural end-to-end medical training, while our collaboration with Local Health Districts strengthens healthcare delivery and leadership in Western Sydney. We strive to graduate career-ready interns equipped for lifelong learning and meaningful impact.
The Opportunity
We are seeking two highly motivated Research Assistants to support the delivery of a cutting-edge project, First, Do No Harm: Implementing Safe Nutrition Messaging in Schools. This project seeks to transform school-based eating disorder prevention through evidence-based nutrition messaging.
Based at our Campbelltown Campus, you’ll work closely with a passionate research team to assist with all aspects of project delivery. Your responsibilities will include data collection and entry, participant recruitment, stakeholder liaison, teacher training support, and the coordination of project materials and meetings. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the success of the project through high-quality research support and smooth administration. Travel between Western’s Campbelltown and Westmead campuses, as well as to Sydney-based data collection sites, is a core part of this role.
About You
You’ll bring a qualification in public health, allied health, medical or social sciences, or a related field, along with previous experience supporting research projects and/or project administration. You have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to juggle competing demands while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Your interpersonal skills enable you to liaise effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, and your proficiency with digital tools means you’re confident with databases, surveys, and the Microsoft Office suite. A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel are essential.
Why Join Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your experience within the School of Medicine and contribute to a high-impact project that supports the health and wellbeing of young people.
You’ll be working alongside a committed and collaborative team, with the chance to apply your skills in a research-focused environment. This role provides a valuable opportunity to broaden your knowledge, build professional networks across the University and research partners, and support a project that aligns closely with Western’s mission and values.
