About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a commercially astute leader to strategically develop, lead, and execute GS1 Australia’s industry development strategy across the retail sector, driving the promotion and adoption of GS1 Standards and Services.
Using your industry expertise and insights to shape and deliver a high impact industry development strategy for the retail sector, you’ll stay ahead of market dynamics, trends, and emerging changes to ensure the strategy stays relevant and aligned with evolving industry needs. You’ll also play a key role in driving alignment across the team and wider organisation, ensuring every activity in your portfolio supports and delivers on the strategic vision.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Developing and delivering industry growth plans to drive revenue through new memberships and services while championing the adoption of GS1 Standards across the retail sector.
Leading pilot projects and industry programs, collaborating with advisory groups, and building strong relationships with key industry bodies and government agencies.
Working closely with the Marketing team to help grow brand recognition through targeted campaigns and industry resources.
Staying abreast of global trends and developments that will impact the local market.
The role requires senior-level engagement with key industry stakeholders, including commercial and non commercial organisations, industry peak bodies, and relevant government and NGO representatives, to advance the goals and objectives of GS1 Australia’s business plan and drive the execution of the retail industry strategy. It also offers the opportunity to occasionally travel, attend global meetings, and participate in key industry events and functions, proudly representing GS1 Australia on both a national and international stage.
What you will bring:
To be successful in this role you will be a seasoned strategic business development professional with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, including boards and C-suite executives. You will have exceptional communication and presentation skills, along with a deep understanding of the retail industry and a clear perspective on how current and emerging technologies will shape the sector in the years ahead.

Proven strategic business development capability.
A track record of driving business growth in a service or technology based environment.
Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to translate industry needs into GS1 Standards and Services programs that deliver real value to the industry.
Professional facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and understand your audience to maximise participation and ensure workshops and working group sessions are highly effective.
An analytical and technically minded approach.
Highly developed people engagement skills, with the ability to negotiate with all levels of staff and management.
