Venue Manager – Monash Club & Church of Secular Coffee

Clement Janken is seeking an experienced and motivated Venue Manager to oversee two exciting venues located on the Monash University Clayton campus:

Monash Club – a vibrant staff and alumni club

Church of Secular Coffee – a specialty café and events space

This is a hands-on management role, ideal for someone who enjoys leading by example and takes pride in service excellence.

About the Venues

Monash Club is a multi-purpose hospitality venue designed for Monash staff, alumni, and postgraduate students. It features a restaurant, lounge, two meeting rooms, and a private dining room—all of which can be tailored for meetings, events, or social gatherings. The Club also provides catering services across the university campus.

Church of Secular Coffee brings the spirit of Melbourne’s iconic café culture to Monash. Inspired by our sister venue ST. ALi in South Melbourne, we serve specialty coffee, modern brunch fare, and an extensive beverage menu highlighting local Victorian and Australian producers, breweries, and wineries.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day operations across both venues, ensuring exceptional service and smooth event execution

Build and maintain strong client relationships with a focus on satisfaction and retention

Drive financial performance through budgeting, cost control, and revenue growth

Lead, train, and inspire a team to deliver consistent, high-quality service

Ensure full compliance with RSA, WHS, food safety, and other regulatory requirements

Collaborate with chefs and culinary teams on menu development and guest experience

Continuously implement and refine systems, processes, and procedures to optimise operations

About You

You are an energetic and experienced leader with a passion for hospitality and a strong eye for detail. You thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy building positive team cultures.

You will bring:

Proven experience in venue or hospitality management (ideally across diverse operations)

Strong leadership and team development skills

Experience in booking and coordinating a range of bookings, from small meetings to large-scale events

Sound financial management skills (budgets, P&L, and cost controls)

Experience with POS systems, online booking platforms, rostering tools, and other operational software

Excellent communication and customer relationship abilities

Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability under pressure

Outstanding organisational and multitasking abilities

High personal standards and a commitment to continuous improvement

Barista skills (a plus)

Understanding of workplace health & safety and food safety regulations

Work Schedule:
We operate Monday to Friday, 9 am – 6 pm. However, flexibility is required for occasional evening and weekend functions. The venue closes for up to four weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.
