SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. We do this by undertaking a mix of responsive and proactive programs of work focused on high-risk harms across all industries, aligned to our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.
SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator. We're looking for an experienced Senior Policy Officer with regulatory policy experience. About the team
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will be part of a team focused on developing and delivering legislative enactments in NSW, liaising with the Executive and Minister's Office on new and emerging harms, and the design of regulatory policies, practices, and directives at a national and state level, across SafeWork NSW.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking research and review of complex policy and/or legislative reform issues.
- Developing stakeholder relationships, providing expert advice across government including between jurisdictions as members of a national framework that has adopted model WHS laws.
- Facilitating consultation and negotiation on policy and/or legislative reform issues.
- Preparing reports, briefs and correspondence, responding to agency and government requests.

About you
- Knowledge of legislative reform proposal development, drafting and preparation of discussion papers for consultation, proposed draft legislation and government processes in relation to changes to legislation and policy.
- Experience in working within intergovernmental arrangements involving model or uniform legislative frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability in distilling complex ideas into plain English.
- Demonstrated experience in operationalising policy within regulatory or government environments.
- Capable of balancing competing demands within tight external timeframes.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated experience dealing with diverse and senior stakeholders.
