Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Water Operations Support Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic operations environment and is passionate about contributing to the delivery of high-quality water services throughout the Southern Downs. Your strong understanding of procurement and contract management will support effective service delivery, while your communication skills will be vital in handling complex enquiries, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building trusted relationships across the sector. You’ll also support business improvement initiatives, track operational performance, and maintain accurate records in accordance with privacy and governance frameworks.

Term: Full-time

Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $3061.70 to $3258.83 per fortnight (Level 4), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland

About the Department

The Water and Wastewater Department works within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate and reports directly to the Director Infrastructure, Assets and Projects with the directive to deliver on the water and wastewater obligations of Council, whilst providing a high level of customer service to the community. Council’s Water Team delivers the essential services of water and wastewater (sewerage) to the Southern Downs community. Water services starts at the source including the treatment and pumping of water, maintaining the network and providing water metering services. Wastewater services start with the property connection and includes maintaining the sewer network, managing pump stations and delivering wastewater treatment services at facilities across the region.

  • Provide advice and response to prospective developers, consultants and the public on a range of water and wastewater related services consistent with legislative and policy guidelines.
  • Provide advice to the Manager and senior staff on relevant legislation, procedures and guidelines relevant to service administration.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and ongoing monitoring of annual budgets, policies, and business plans to support effective water and wastewater operations and service delivery
  • Manage applications and requests within the applicable timeframes.
  • Provide detailed advice and recommendations on procurement activities in line with policy guidelines, supporting staff in managing procurement processes, including the implementation and ongoing monitoring of contracts, to ensure reliable delivery of water and wastewater services.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in research, analysis, and problem-solving to improve systems and develop efficient, practical processes related to water and wastewater operations.
  • Proven ability to contribute to the development, and maintenance of policies and procedures that support customer service and infrastructure delivery, ensuring consistent, compliant, and effective service delivery.
  • Proven ability to review and provide informed recommendations on departmental budget requirements, ensuring that fees and charges accurately reflect resource needs, service delivery expectations, and are aligned with relevant application processes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to assist with the development of contracts in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational policies.
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
