Are you an experienced leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and can operate independently with minimal oversight?

We’re looking for a confident and capable individual to lead our Care Planning and Support Service. This is your opportunity to shape trauma-informed, best-practice services that improve outcomes for children and young people. If you’re ready to lead with purpose, inspire others, and drive meaningful change, we’d love to hear from you.

The Care Planning and Support Director plays a pivotal leadership role within IRRU, focused on achieving the best possible life outcomes for children and young people. This is accomplished through the delivery of responsive, trauma-informed services and the development of systems grounded in best practice. The Director oversees a diverse portfolio that includes both direct case management services and enabling functions that support frontline practitioners. These functions ensure that statutory responsibilities and cross-jurisdictional information-sharing obligations are met effectively and consistently.

Reporting directly to the IRR Senior Director, the Director provides strategic and operational leadership, including supervision and support to the leadership group. The role ensures that all practitioners operate in alignment with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, and that service delivery is both compliant and responsive. The Director holds responsibility for the overall performance and governance of the business area, offering expert advice on staffing, service delivery, and client matters to the Executive team. This role is critical in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, reflective practice, and professional excellence across the service.

HCSD is an inclusive employer where all people are respected and valued for their contribution. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline are essential. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply. For Youth Justice positions, relevant qualification in Criminology or Law may be considered.
  • At least five (5) years of practical experience working with children, youth and/or families in a social work/case management role, and/or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
  • Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 will be required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable people registrations, refer to Access Canberra.
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Notes: A merit pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
