Western NSW Community Legal Centre Inc. (WNSWCLC) is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to strengthen relationships with First Nations communities across our service regions. This identified role is an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to play a key role in supporting culturally safe access to our services , including general legal assistance and the specialist domestic violence units, Western Women’s Legal Support (WWLS). The successful candidate will help facilitate meaningful engagement with First Nations communities and provide strong administrative support across the Network.

Western NSW Community Legal Centre (WNSWCLC) is a not-for-profit organisation working to improve access to justice for people facing disadvantage across the region. We provide free legal advice, representation, referrals, and community education to empower and support our communities. The specialist unit, Western Women’s Legal Support (WWLS), delivers trauma-informed, culturally safe support to women and children affected by domestic and family violence.
At WNSWCLC, we work with compassion, respect, and a commitment to systemic change through law reform and education.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Community Engagement Officer, you’ll play a vital role in connecting our services with First Nations communities across Western NSW. Key responsibilities include:
Engage with First Nations communities, organisations, and stakeholders to build trust and raise awareness of our legal and support services.
Provide culturally safe, non-legal support to First Nations clients, helping with forms, appointments, and referrals .
Assist with outreach visits and help deliver community legal education in accessible, culturally appropriate ways.
Contribute to the development of culturally relevant materials and support the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan.
Represent WNSWCLC at events such as NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week to foster visibility and relationships.
Work with the team to enhance internal cultural awareness and ensure our services remain inclusive and responsive.
Support daily operations, attend team meetings, and participate in strategic planning and reporting activities.
Join outreach trips across the region (with occasional overnight stays) to ensure services reach communities that need them most.
ABOUT YOU
As our Community Engagement Officer, you’ll bring:
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and strong community connections.
Experience working respectfully with First Nations communities.
A genuine commitment to social justice and culturally safe service delivery.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to work well in a team and independently.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Confidence with basic admin and reporting tasks.
A NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel, including overnight outreach.
A Certificate III in Community Services or similar
Experience in a legal, community, or women’s support organisation

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

Remuneration package: from $68,000 to $70,343 plus superannuation per year.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
