This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

What you'll be doing

  • The Manager District Maintenance is responsible for the management of the day to day statutory, preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance requirements for the buildings, plant and equipment of the Far West Local Health District ensuring all maintenance, operational actions and procedures are in line with relevant industry standards, policies, guidelines, regulations and legislations.
  • In addition to being a hands-on role, this position will also be responsible for the supervision and coordination of staff and contractors to ensure day to day operational activities are met consistent with the strategic and operational intent of the District.
  • This position is responsible for the overall management of fire and safety systems within the Local Health District and the compliance to all statutory requirements for fire and safety prevention and emergency management.
  • This role will also assist the Senior Manager Assets, Facilities and Support Services, where required on all operational assets and facility matters.

  • Current Trade Certificate, NSW Trade Licence and/or current Qualified Supervisors Certificate in Electrical or Refrigeration.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience including capability to meet competencies described in NSW Health Fire Safety policy through considerable previous fire safety management experience and/or qualifications in a professional fire safety management role.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to manage a high / fluctuating volume of work, and the ability to allocate priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work unsupervised to provide after hours on call support and work as part of a team, with the ability to manage and purchase equipment required to ensure the completion of tasks or projects that are undertaken.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facilities management processes, systems and work practices with experience in software systems to utilise spreadsheets, word processing, email and other Microsoft Office applications to manage the maintenance team and distribute maintenance requests for the LHD.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal and external contacts in regards to repairs and scheduling works with demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, supervise, inspire and manage a multi- disciplinary team of trades and non-trades staff.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of electrical and/or refrigeration plant and equipment and infrastructure to assist trade staff/contractors as required and demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and compliance with appropriate safety policies and procedures, including relevant Australian Standards and codes of conduct.
  • NSW drivers licence with ability and willingness to travel across sites within the District.

About Far West NSW Local Health District

Broken Hill, NSW, Australia

Bordering three states, Far West Local Health District (LHD) covers 194,949 square kilometres in remote NSW. The LHD is sparsely populated, with 62% of its approximately 30,000 inhabitants living in the Silver City of Broken Hill. The remainder of the population live in agricultural towns along the Murray River, in small remote communities of 80-800 people or on stations throughout the LHD.
