The Role:
Are you passionate about plants and eager to make a difference in your community? At Mackay Regional Council, horticulture is more than just plants-it's about creating beautiful, sustainable environments for everyone to enjoy!
As a Horticulture Trainee, you'll embark on an exciting journey where you'll learn to identify, grow, propagate, maintain, and nurture a wide variety of plant species at the Natural Environment Centre and the Botanic Gardens. But that's not all! You'll also play a key role in maintaining and revitalizing our city's parks, gardens, and streetscapes.
Timeframe and Qualification:
This is a 2-year traineeship. On completion you will obtain a Certificate III in Horticulture.
This is a traineeship and is ideal for school leavers, those new to the industry or seeking a career change. Eligibility criteriaapply if you hold existing qualifications in this area.

What you will need to succeed:
- A passion for working with plants and an interest in the cultivation and propagation of plants.
- Ability to work both autonomously and in a team.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- You're a team player, with the ability to learn from, and grow positive relationships with others.
- The ability to complete manual handling tasks.
- Successful completion of Year 10 is desirable, but not required.
