The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly) is the democratic voice of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Victorian Treaty process. The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians in the Treaty process, including by:

Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,

Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),

Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Role: Social Media and Digital Creator

The Assembly is seeking an experienced digital creator who has a proven track record in creating and presenting content – written and visual – for social media and publishing across a range of platforms.

The role will also require other tasks such as attending community events and capturing content, writing, uploading and formatting email blasts, web copy and more.

The Social Media Content Creator will join the Assembly’s dynamic communications team, which works on a wide range of exciting campaigns, servicing Community and diverse secondary audiences.

We are looking for someone with drive and initiative who can take the reins on our social media channels – from creating/finding and scheduling content to paid targeted advertising.

Someone who will implement creative tactics and come up with interesting and engaging content that follows the stays on top of the trends in the world of socials!

Our social media channels provide a positive and bold voice for mob in Victoria and informs and motivate people to support and be involved in the journey to Treaty. Team Function:

Manages internal and external communications, including public relations, media relations, with the aim to deliver effective messaging, campaign strategies, and content that align with the Assembly and forward the Treaty process.

Reports to:

Communications and Campaign Manager

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the Assembly’s social media channels including but not limited to:

Preparing and publishing content across the Assembly’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube)

Creating original content including attending events to capture content

Proactively seeking out relevant existing content

Reacting swiftly to breaking news or trending topics that concern First Nations people

Assist in a broader range of tasks including:

Drafting email or webpage copy

Drafting blogs

Preparing newsletter content

Other miscellaneous communications tasks

Skills, Competencies & Knowledge:

Excellent written communication skills

Experience creating and publishing content for social media platforms

Ability to take initiative and think creatively

Ability to work to challenging deadlines

Experience in rudimentary video editing, such as trimming clips and adding subtitles using standard software

Confidence with web/email publishing applications and backend admin tools, or willingness to learn

Ability to collate and measure social media analytics and key metrics

Any level of skills in graphic design, photography, video production, marketing, media liaison/PR or any other range of communication skills will be highly valued but not essential

Willingness and ability to travel for event across Victoria

Experience & Qualifications:

Experience working with or demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal community in Victoria.

Demonstrated experience publishing content across a broad range of social media channels to achieve strategic objectives or reach diverse audiences.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and get things done, with a proactive approach to being part of a small team.

Experience working with both internal and external stakeholders to meet tight deadlines.

Successful experience multi-tasking and balancing competing priorities.

Drivers’ License required.

Working with Children Check required.

Demonstrated skill and capacity to work effectively and with integrity in the context of a Victorian First Peoples’ Representative Body.

Key Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated experience publishing content across a broad range of social media channels to achieve strategic objectives or reach diverse audiences

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and get things done, with a proactive approach to being part of a small team

Location :

This role is base in our Collingwood office or with a hybrid office/working from home arrangement.
