The City of Canning is looking for a dynamic Community Development Officer – Programming & Activation to drive the activation of the Hillview Intercultural Community Centre (Hillview Hub) – a place where cultures meet, stories are shared, and communities grow!

About the role

This exciting position plays a key role in developing and delivering inclusive and community-led programs, activities and services that activate the Hillview Hub and reflect the needs and aspirations of Canning’s diverse community. You'll collaborate with community groups and organisations, cultural associations and internal staff to build their capacity to deliver projects and programs that foster connection, learning, social inclusion and cultural celebration.

Based at the Hillview Hub, you’ll also provide an outstanding level of customer service to daily customers and centre users, connecting them with information, resources as well as advice and support.

Reporting to the Coordinator– Hillview Intercultural Community Centre, this is a permanent, full-time position in a welcoming and thriving local council. What you’ll be doing in the role

Activate the Hillview Hub! Together with community stakeholders, develop and deliver a broad range of programs, activities, and services that foster connection, learning, social inclusion and cultural celebration.

Engage with purpose – Develop relationships with community partners, organisations and internal teams to build their own capacity in developing solutions that addresses their unique needs and aspirations.

Be the face of Hillview - Deliver exceptional customer service to visitors and centre users, including mentoring, advice and facilitating access to information and resources with warmth, professionalism, and a can-do attitude.

Operations - Support daily operations such as key collections, equipment and room checks, inductions for room hirers, and post-use inspections in accordance with centre procedures.

Multi-task and juggle - Manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines without missing a beat!

What you can bring to the role

We’re after someone that thrives in a high-energy, fast-paced environment, with exceptional
face-to-face customer service and communication skills. You’re resilient, organised and have the ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team. You will also bring:

Experience in community development and engagement (or similar) and experience developing and delivering community-based projects and partnerships

The ability to work with culturally diverse communities, a strong understanding of inclusion and high levels of cultural competency

Excellent technology and digital literacy, including an eye for writing great content for internet, social media and e-newsletters

The ability to develop communication campaigns that target and engage communities

Highly organised and adept at multi-tasking, you’re able to manage multiple programs, events, and relationships all at once

A qualification in Community Development, Communications (or in a relevant field) or demonstrated equivalent experience

Able to provide a satisfactory National Police Clearance (less than 6 months old)
