We're currently recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking council for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join their high-performing Roads & Traffic team. This is a pivotal role that blends operational responsibilities with strategic transport planning, giving you the opportunity to contribute to safe, efficient, and accessible movement throughout the local government area.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you'll be involved in a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Traffic and Transport Investigations: Responding to community traffic and parking enquiries, conducting on-site inspections, and delivering engineering assessments and recommendations.
- Planning and Design: Assisting in the design and delivery of LATM (Local Area Traffic Management) treatments, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian facilities, and parking strategies.
- Event and Operational Support: Coordinating traffic management approvals for special events, festivals, road closures, construction works, and other operational needs.
- Development Assessment: Reviewing development applications and providing detailed traffic-related comments, conditions, and recommendations.
- Local Traffic Committee Support: Preparing reports and documentation for the Local Traffic Committee and participating in relevant stakeholder meetings.
- Strategic Input: Supporting the preparation and implementation of plans such as the Bike Plan, Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP), parking schemes, and other long-term transport strategies.
- Community Engagement: Working directly with residents, businesses, and external agencies to provide expert guidance and support on a wide range of traffic and transport matters.
What You'll Bring
To succeed in this role, you will have a strong foundation in traffic and transport engineering within a local government or consultancy environment. You'll be a confident communicator who thrives in stakeholder-facing roles and is passionate about developing practical, community-focused solutions.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree qualifications in Civil or Traffic Engineering
- Proven experience in traffic planning, transport design, and the application of LATM principles
- Sound knowledge of Austroads, Transport for NSW guidelines, and NSW Road Rules
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and negotiation
- Confidence using relevant engineering software such as AutoCAD
- Class C Driver's Licence (required)
Desirable:
- Traffic Control accreditation - Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plans
- Familiarity with council processes, local traffic committees, or development assessment
