OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Learning programs at the National Gallery centre the voices and perspectives of artists. The Lead Artist Educator, Outreach role embeds artists within the development and delivery of outreach and digital learning experiences at the National Gallery, recognising artists as creative and critical thinkers and people who bring unique perspectives to engagement with art, ideas and artmaking.

Sitting with the National Gallery Learning Department, our team of Lead Artist Educators brings together people with a diverse range of creative and cultural practice and experience, such as visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, performers, dancers, writers, poets, researchers and curators.

The primary role of the Lead Artist Educator, Outreach is to work collaboratively to develop and deliver offsite and online programs and learning resources for formal learning groups, including early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary students, teachers and educators, as well as informal learning groups through our public and access programs. All programs facilitate active engagement with the National Gallery’s collection and artistic program.

The Lead Artist Educator, Outreach works closely with the National Gallery’s First Nations Lead Artist Educator and First Nations Learning Facilitators, through training and delivery of the Gallery’s First Nations learning program, Art Through Culture.

Program delivery will take place across the Gallery, including in our Digital Learning Studio for online programs, as well as some offsite delivery as part of the Gallery’s Art Across Australia initiative in support of the touring exhibitions program. Program delivery will also incorporate the Portable Digital Learning Studio for programs in exhibition spaces or the National Gallery Sculpture Garden.

After hours and weekend work is required on occasions.

This position reports to the Digital Learning Manager and works closely with the Education Manager, Technical Producer, Digital Learning Convenor, Outreach Convenor, Access Convenor and Operations Coordinator.

This is a part-time (0.6), non-ongoing employment opportunity which may become ongoing.

WHAT WILL YOU DO – DUTY STATEMENT

In accordance with the APS 5 work level standards, you will have the following key responsibilities:

Develop, deliver and evaluate outreach and digital learning programs for a range of audiences including schools, children, young people, families, adults and access audiences.

Identify and adapt programs for delivery through outreach and digital learning programs.

Understand the objectives of the National Gallery Learning team and participate in collaborative planning sessions to develop ideas, resources, work plans and team goals.

Research, write and produce content for online learning resources.

Set-up and pack-down learning spaces and maintain resources and equipment.

Work collaboratively as part of the Learning team and contribute to a culture of reflective practice.

Understand the work environment and be flexible and responsive to change.

ELIGIBILITY:

Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the Gallery, you must be an Australian citizen.

Police Check – to be eligible for this role you must complete a police check.

Working With Vulnerable People Check (WWVP) – to be eligible for this role you must hold a current WWVP card or have the ability to obtain.
