About the role
We are seeking a proactive and community-focused Community Safety Officer to join Yarra Ranges Council. In this role, you’ll play a key part in fostering a safe and connected community by promoting positive health outcomes and safer behaviours. You’ll work directly with the community, providing education, guidance, and enforcement to ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and relevant legislation.
This position offers a dynamic work environment where no two days are the same. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders, address a variety of community concerns, and contribute to innovative safety initiatives. This a challenging and rewarding role for those passionate about community service and public safety.
Full-time Permanent position with flexible work arrangements available.
Band 5 role with a salary range of $78,164 to $86,825 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
20 weeks paid primary caregiver leave (6 weeks for secondary caregivers) plus other generous leave options such as family planning and menstrual and menopause leave.
Experience and skills we’re looking for
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to educate, negotiate, and resolve issues effectively.
Proven expertise in investigation techniques, evidence gathering, and preparation of reports for legal proceedings.
Previous experience or qualifications, demonstrating the ability to handle domestic animals and livestock.
Ability to build community awareness and understanding through proactive education programs.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Domestic Animals Act, and Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law, or proven industry experience with the enforcement of Victorian or state legislation.
Strong writing skills for preparing correspondence, reports, and statutory documents with clarity and precision.
Resilience and adaptability to manage time, resources, and stress effectively in a dynamic environment.
A collaborative and team-oriented approach to achieving positive outcomes, continuous improvement, and drives positive culture.
