About the Team

The Child and Youth Mental Health Service has two mental health inpatient units that provide acute recovery oriented multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention for young people and their families. The units consist of an adolescent unit and a child unit each with its own multi-disciplinary team. Both units provide acute short-term hospital admissions for children and young people who may be in crisis, have risk within their presentation, have a level of symptomatology that requires intensive intervention, or benefit from a planned admission. The unit functions as a tertiary service providing statewide support for admissions.

The Child and Youth Mental Health Service Community Program consists of 6 multidisciplinary teams that support children, young people and their families aged from 5–18 years of age presenting with complex mental health needs. Interventions range from acute crisis response to medium term interventions.

About the Role

  • Co-leading and participation in supervision and support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers (HWF3, HWF2) by facilitating ongoing monitoring and evaluation of professional practice development.
  • Collaboratively lead stakeholder engagement to improve service provision and coordination of complex care consumers.
  • Actively participate and contribute in strategic meetings to represent the interests and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their and families.

  • Manage professionally and sensitively with young people and families experiencing Mental Health issues within the inpatient setting and if required in the community CYMHS setting.
  • Provide cultural expertise on relevant committees and leadership meetings with Campus Based CYMHS.
  • Liaison with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations and other external agencies including schools is core to the Community CYMHS model of care.
  • Coordinate and deliver services within a hub and spoke service model across the Community CYMHS Program.
