What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Senior Team Leader, Security Command.
Security Command is responsible for ensuring the security of the AFP’s people, information, assets and operational delivery. This is achieved through the development of a strong enterprise-wide security culture and building capabilities to ensure security risks are appropriately identified and mitigated.
As Senior Team Leader you will lead a number of security teams consisting of skilled and agile multi-discipline professionals to deliver enterprise-wide security services. You will be responsible for driving, implementing and delivering capability, strategies, policies and practices in support of the AFP based on high level decision-making and judgement. You will have the capacity to think strategically, operationalise strategic direction and develop an agile approach to deliver security services across the enterprise.
As a Senior Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change, influencing behaviours and driving innovation that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values and Code of Conduct, leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
As a Senior Team Leader, you are responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of multiple security teams involved in the delivery of physical and personnel security, education and security advice. In doing this, you will effectively and efficiently manage resources to meet the unique challenges and priorities of the Security Command.
Your responsibilities include leading a number of teams to achieve the following:
- Operationalising the strategic direction of the Security Command, including ensuring business plan key deliverables and priorities are met;
- Undertake and oversight a range of activities and collaborate with internal stakeholders in the identification and mitigation of security risks and enhancement of security controls;
- Building an operating environment that fosters security intelligence capability to triage, assess, analyse, innovate and enhance capability;
- Oversight the dissemination of security information, intelligence and threat reporting;
- Direct the provision of security related education and general security advice across the enterprise pertaining to physical and personal security and security best practice;
- Apply contemporary business improvement and change management knowledge, to drive innovation, enhance service delivery outcomes and facilitate effective change;
- Make informed strategic business decisions relating to budget, priorities, governance, risks, and resource management; ensuring minimal impact and pressure on the Command;
- Develop work practices and policies and ensure alignment with up to date policy and governance frameworks;
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and actively pursue opportunities for cooperation, strategic alliances, and information sharing;
- Lead and mentor to drive team performance, supported through clear direction, goal setting, health and wellbeing of individuals, and career development; and
- Model critical behaviours to promote a workplace culture that aligns with AFP strategy, leadership philosophy and core values.
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 2 (TOP SECRET) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Experience in production of written security products, assessments and risk assessments.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight timeframes, with minimal supervision, while delivering high level outputs and contributing to the outcome of the Security Command.
- Demonstrated high-level leadership.
- Ability to undertake domestic and international travel, sometimes at short notice.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Experience in large, diverse and sensitive security infrastructure projects dealing with internal and external stakeholders;
- Experience and knowledge in managing large security system platforms i.e. Electronic Access Control Systems and Closed Circuit Television across a large geographical footprint;
- Well-developed analytical skills working with different systems and technologies;
- Demonstrated and contemporary experience and/or qualifications in Australian Government Security and protective security investigations.
