We are a leading Australian Mortgage Manager who is a specialist mortgage lender - predominantly in SMSF mortgages.
We need a Lending Specialist who is experienced in loan processing and assessment of home loan applications, ideally in specialist mortgages such as SMSF or low-doc / alt-doc. It is important that you have had mortgage processing prior experience.
About the role:
What would a typical day look like in this role?
We are a very small team, with a supportive manager. Our applications come from three streams – referrer brokers, accountants and direct from public.
Your day would be a mix of new files for assessment and completing the follow-up on existing files. All files are home loan files, with SMSF mortgages dominating, and some alt-doc mortgages. These will include both PAYG and self-employed applicants and both purchases and refinance scenarios. You will have the satisfaction of taking the file from the initial submission all the way through to formal approval, including all the checks, valuations, searches, etc. that this entails. Another team handles settlements once formally approved.
As the role of Lending Specialist is to maximise the growth opportunities for the business, you will use your experience to give advice which helps to structure the deal in the best way possible for both the customer (ie rate or speed to Yes) and the business (ie which wholesale funder to use).
Aside from your team, your day-to-day interactions will be with the Brokers, other referrers, customers and wholesale lending partners credit team. It will be important that you are keeping them informed of the status of applications. In addition, you might want to run a few things past the scenarios team if the credit policy is unclear.
About you:
What would a suitable candidate have by way of skills and experience?
5+ years Mortgage Industry and Lending skills
Mortgage Processing and administration skills
Proficient with loan management systems such as LoanApp and MS Excel.
Highly organised, analytical, and detail-driven.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Discuss initial mortgage scenarios with potential customers / referrers
Collaborate with customers, brokers, accountants & wholesale lenders
Ability to manage workflows and follow up on issues in a timely manner.
Ideally solid knowledge of SMSF regulation and SMSF lending

You would be mostly working from home, working in collaboration on Teams and other software with other staff and external customers. We have an office in the Sydney CBD, which is located close to Wynard when in person meetings are required.
