About the opportunity
Southern Cross University’s Discipline of Veterinary Science is seeking a Manager, Professional Experience in Veterinary Sciences. This role leads the management of professional placements and off-site learning across Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Technology courses. A key focus is developing and maintaining external teaching partnerships aligned with accreditation standards and strategic goals of SCU’s new Veterinary programs. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Lead strategic partnerships to enhance high quality, off-campus veterinary learning experiences, aligned with the Discipline’s teaching goals.
- Oversee quality assurance and compliance for external teaching sites, including learning experience review, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements such as animal ethics, WHS, and biosafety.
- Manage the Veterinary Medicine professional experience program, including policy development, budgeting, contractual establishment and maintenance, and operational leadership in collaboration with the Faculty Manager.
- Lead and engage in committees and other governance processes, providing expert advice to support best practices in professional experience delivery and assessment.
- Support systems and resources development, including placement workflows, educator training, compliance tracking, and the creation of student-facing materials to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences.Additional requirements for ACAD C – You will demonstrate a strong record in delivering learner-centred undergraduate education aligned with professional standards and Faculty goals. You will contribute to teaching, academic leadership, and the development of scholarly and research activities that enhance student learning. This includes involvement in academic governance and leadership across teaching and learning initiatives.
About you
You are passionate about shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals through high-quality placements, strong industry partnerships, and a commitment to teaching excellence. More specifically, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to managing external teaching partnerships, ideally in veterinary, agriculture, animal, or health sciences.
- A proven ability to build and maintain productive industry partnerships, with a strong network in relevant professional sectors.
- Experience in organisational and leadership roles, including policy development, workflow design, budgeting, and staff management
- Skills in contract and project management and administrative oversight, with a strong commitment to equity, cultural diversity and WHS principlesAdditional requirements for ACAD C – You will have a record of independent, original contributions to scholarship, recognised nationally for advancing your discipline. You will also play a significant leadership role in teaching, research, and academic administration, including coordination of major programs and supervision of research students.
Salary and benefits
Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 8 or ACAD C based at our Lismore campus. Generous relocation support is available to those relocating to commence the appointment. The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidates’ qualifications and experience
- HEW Level 8. The base salary ranges from $116,672 - $128,651 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $150,521.
- Academic Level C. The base salary ranges from $134,848 - $155,046 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $181,403.
