NOTE: This is a 12-week program consisting of 2 weeks training in the classroom in Katherine followed by 10 weeks out bush in in our community clinics. There may be the possibility of ongoing work in our clinics at the completion of the program.

Why Katherine West Health Board?
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

KWHB's vision acknowledges the distinct and diverse identity of their people and communities, ensuring member communities are involved in the planning, development and implementation of their health programs. Our holistic services are designed to promote the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the person and their community.

This program is limited to three positions. Applications will be assessed as they are received, and the opportunity will close on 4 August 2025, or earlier if suitable candidates are selected.

The program will commence on 25 August 2025.

About the Opportunity
The transition to remote practice is a program for Registered Nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners who are new to remote area practice. The course is designed to prepare participants for remote practice by utilising existing experience and providing the necessary skills and knowledge to transition into a role with KWHB.

About you

This position is well suited to someone who is a Registered Nurse (RN) with clinical experience, that is interested in transitioning to Remote Health Practice.

Immunisation certificate or a willingness to obtain one

History of providing best practice care, ensuring quality and safety, as demonstrated in your current workplace.

Have the knowledge and understanding of social determinants of health affecting Aboriginal people living in remote communities and the ability to communicate and work effectively with Aboriginal people and/or in a cross-cultural setting.

You will need to be comfortable in an Adult Learning environment and keen to start the next stage of your career, with training and mentoring, as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Permanent Australian work rights or appropriate visa with full-time work rights
