About the Faculty/School
The Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education (HASSE) offers innovative programs across a range of disciplines and professions, underpinned by the University’s commitment to provide excellent teaching, flexible and outstanding learning facilities and a first-rate student learning experience. The Faculty consists of two Schools, the School of Education, and the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS). Further information can be found on the website: Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education.
Through its teaching and research the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences explores the foundations of culture and society, how humans interact with each other and the built and physical environments, and how people communicate and express ideas. The Department of Geography and Planning’s teaching and research are concerned with human interrelationships and interactions with their physical and built environments. This knowledge is essential for answering the critical questions currently facing humanity: climate change, ecological collapse, human population growth, economic development, social inequality and accelerating land and water degradation. Planning is about designing places that will stand the test of time and not cost the Earth. Geography and Planning are essentially two sides of the same ‘applied geography’ discipline. The Department is an international and national provider of planning education, and occupies a unique position as an external provider to practicing and aspiring planners. Further information can be found on the website: Department of Geography and Planning.
