The Opportunity:

We are seeking a conscientious and highly motivated Academic Staff Member to join our esteemed team. This role is ideal for an individual with a profound understanding of the HSC English Advanced syllabus and a proven track record of academic excellence. As an Academic Staff Member at Delta, you will join a team of the highest achievers in the state, whose mentorship has consistently guided students to top-ranking HSC English results, whilst facilitating the development of critical thinking skills and a genuine appreciation of literature.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate lecture-style seminars and provide intensive one-on-one mentorship, deconstructing the nuances of the HSC English Advanced syllabus.

Author and curate proprietary academic resources, including tertiary-level study guides and critical perspectives that extend beyond the standard curriculum.

Provide highly detailed, line-by-line feedback on student essays, focusing on argumentative structure, stylistic sophistication, and conceptual depth.

Operate as a dedicated mentor for a select portfolio of students, inspiring intellectual curiosity and consistent academic development.

Contribute to a collaborative and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

Maintain a rigorous and up-to-date knowledge of the HSC English Advanced curriculum and HSC marking standards.

About You:

A genuine passion for the rich traditions of English literature and a desire to foster critical thinking in students.

A demonstrable history of academic pre-eminence in HSC English Advanced, Extension 1, or Extension 2 (a NSW State Rank is highly desirable), alongside commensurate university achievements.

An active and demonstrable intellectual curiosity, including an engagement with literature and critical theory beyond the confines of the HSC syllabus.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas with precision and clarity.

Previous tutoring or teaching experience, particularly with high-achieving cohorts.

Currently undertaking or have completed a university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Arts, Law, Education).

Conscientious, detail-oriented, and reliable in managing workloads and comprehensively meeting responsibilities.

We believe in recognising the distinct intellectual labour of academic work. To that end, we have developed a granular and transparent remuneration structure with separate, competitive rates for teaching, one-on-one mentoring, essay marking, and resource development. This ensures you are compensated for all aspects of your contribution. Based on a typical workload, our academic staff can expect to achieve an all-inclusive earning rate of $57.00 to $86.00 per hour. This rate grows as you progress through our seven-step academic scale, providing multiple avenues for significant income growth. A full schedule of rates will be provided to shortlisted candidates.
