ABOUT THE ROLE:

We have an opportunity for an experienced Relationship Counsellor to provide counselling services to families, couples, and individuals including children for the purpose of improving capacity to engage in healthy and respectful relationships. The role will also involve case management, case coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and the delivery of group programs, seminars, and workshops as needed.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the use of various relevant counselling modalities.

The role involves delivering relationship counselling services in Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains and surrounding regions.

This position is integral to our partnership with headspace, providing direct support to parents of teenagers. Ideally the role will involve working from the headspace offices in Mt Druitt and Katoomba, alternating locations fortnightly.

In addition, once a fortnight you will be required to work an evening shift from 11am to 7pm at the Uniting office in Oatlands, supporting parents of young people attending the YESS program.

The position is line with a SCHADS Award level 5, with an hourly rate of $55.10 plus 12% superannuation.
This is a Fixed term opportunity until 30 June 2026, working 30hrs per week over 4 days.

KEY ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or related discipline; or a Graduate Diploma in counselling in addition to a Bachelor's degree that is not a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience and skills in:

  • delivering counselling services to the following - individuals, couples, families and children
  • case work with clients, implementing and supporting case plans
  • facilitating groups, seminars, and workshops
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • report writing, case notes, data collection, and data entry

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of:

  • the process and purpose of child inclusive practice
  • the issues facing diverse communities, including First Nations, CALD, LGBTQIA+ and remote communities
  • the impact of family separation and breakdown on children, and having skills in managing high parental conflict whilst upholding the best interests of children
  • child development, child protection, mandatory reporting, suicide prevention/intervention, and family violence issues
  • trauma informed principles
  • community services, especially those relating to families experiencing relationship difficulties
  • the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act, and other relevant legislation
