The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist will play a strategic role in shaping Melton City Council’s digital platforms. You will be a key driver in connecting our community to the work of Council.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering impactful communication strategies across multiple channels. Working collaboratively with teams across Council, you will ensure that our digital messaging is clear, consistent, and enhances customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the wider communications team to manage Council’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), including content planning and management, active monitoring and coordinating with staff across the organisation to respond to community engagement on behalf of Council.
- Provide evidence-based advice to the Manager Communications on emerging trends, risks and challenges in the social media landscape.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aimed at increasing Council awareness, fostering positive engagement and enhancing the organisation’s reputation.
- Develop and evaluate the EDMs across the organisation and implement strategies to maximise engagement.
- Monitor and analyse social media performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and provide actionable insights to optimise content and engagement strategies.
- Contribute, as required, to the management and development of Council’s other digital platforms including the primary and secondary websites, online forms and booking pages.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant communication field, social media or digital communications or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience within the discipline.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, coordinating social media websites and EDMs for a medium to large organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing effective engagement techniques in the digital space, specifically through social media channels, EDMs, website and video.
- Will be required to undertake work outside of standard business hours, including weekends, on an ad hoc basis.
- Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
