As a Researcher/Senior Researcher in the One Basin CRC, you’ll be part of a cohort of leading researchers making a significant impact in how water is sustainably managed for economic, environmental and cultural prosperity in the Murray-Darling Basin. Based at one of the CRC’s Regional Hubs (Loxton, SA; Mildura, Vic; Griffith, NSW; Goondiwindi, Qld), you’ll work closely with the CRC’s seven university partners and ~80 industry partners to maximise the impact of our research.

You’ll work across the CRC’s four Research Programs to transform how government, industry and communities in the Murray-Darling Basin use water in the face of climate change. You’ll have a strong interest in working across disciplines and sectors to translate the CRC’s research into impact in the areas of government policy, regional development, technology adoption and First Nations livelihoods. Your research will set the CRC up to have transformational impact in the way water is valued and managed in the Murray-Darling Basin.

About One Basin CRC
The One Basin CRC is a focused research collaboration developing policy, technical and financial solutions to support and reduce exposure to climate, water and environmental threats in the Murray-Darling Basin. The CRC includes more than 80 partners across industry, government, research organisations and not for profits working to achieve a more productive, resilient and sustainable Murray-Darling Basin. The CRC has a strong commitment to work collaboratively with our partners and stakeholders across the basin to achieve real world outcomes and impact. The One Basin CRC is a values-based organisation. Effective engagement and communication are central to our value proposition and are embedded as core values of the organisation. The CRC has a commitment to place-based research in the Basin with focus around four Regional Hubs located at Loxton, Mildura, Griffith and Goondiwindi. As an Researcher/Senior Researcher with the One Basin CRC, your work will help shape how research achieves change in complex regional systems. You’ll be part of a collaborative team driving new approaches to research for impact. Your responsibilities will include:

Leading Impact-Oriented Research: Design and deliver research that advances how knowledge is translated, adopted, or applied—whether through new models of policy influence, regional innovation, commercialisation, or cross-sector collaboration.

Partnering with Stakeholders: Work closely with regional communities, governments, industry and CRC partners to co-design research, identify adoption pathways, and contribute to capacity-building and institutional change.

Advancing Methodologies: Apply and develop innovative qualitative and/or quantitative methods to investigate topics such as regional foresighting, policy experimentation, land and water systems, or integration of Indigenous and Western knowledges.

Contributing to Scholarly and Applied Knowledge: Produce high-quality research outputs including journal articles, technical reports, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences.

Working as Part of a Collaborative Research Culture: Contribute to an inclusive and impact-focused team environment that values diversity, collegiality, and safe work practices.

You may be a great fit if:

You are an experienced researcher with a PhD from the disciplines of economics, public policy, behavioral sciences, technology adoption and innovation, water management and engineering, and/or business and marketing with a passion for making a difference in the sustainable management of water resources in the Murray-Darling Basin. You’ll have an emerging or established publication record and excellent communication and engagement skills.

You may also:

Have a proven work experience and networks outside of academia.

Possess experience in capacity building and stakeholder engagement to drive research impact.

Demonstrate experience in water policy, Indigenous methodologies, co-design, and ICIP protocols, futures & scenario analysis, regional innovation and economic development, or technology commercialisation and adoption.

Have experience in supervising students and research assistants.

Show ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary research environments.
