About This Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and motivated Farm Attendant to support the daily operations of the Small Ruminant team within the Farm Services Unit at UQ's Gatton campus.

Reporting to the Farms Manager, this role involves assisting with the day-to-day running of farm activities, including the setup and maintenance of irrigation equipment, fodder production, chemical handling, and accurate record keeping related to these operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Irrigation, Equipment & Farm Maintenance - Relocate, set up, and start irrigators daily; operate and maintain a variety of agricultural equipment; and undertake maintenance of farm infrastructure such as fences and enclosures.
  • Animal Husbandry & Chemical Handling - Carry out routine animal care, monitor animal health and welfare, report concerns requiring veterinary attention, and assist with preparation and application of agricultural chemicals.
  • Teaching Support & Record Keeping - Maintain accurate operational records and work closely with teaching staff and students, providing demonstrations and support during practical farming skills training and experience programs.

About You
  • Certificate in a relevant discipline (Agriculture, Agronomy or engineering), or a year 12 level of education with relevant work experience, or equivalent relevant experience or combination of relevant experience and education/training
  • Knowledge of, and experience using boom and hard hose irrigators
  • Certificate of competency in the operation of a front end loader, fork lift, quad bike, side by side and tractor or willing to attain within three months of appointment
  • A, B and C class motor vehicle licences (MR.HR would be an advantage)
  • Knowledge of irrigation, fodder or field crop production
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and undertake basic maintenance of equipment associated with irrigation, cropping and fodder production
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently when required and effectively within a small team
  • A commitment to quality service, processes, production and attention to detail
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a Blue Card and Chemcert accreditation in Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals, a commercial operators license issued under the ACDC Act would be highly regarded

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, Right to work in Australia and mandatory immunisations.
