Laboratory Technician for Food Manufacturing Facility

Join the QA team at Challenge Foods, a family-owned business that has been producing food products and supporting the local community for over 50 years.
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician who will play a vital role in the business as part of a team, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and requirements. Additionally, this role might evolve to include Quality Control activities on the production floor as the business expands.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collecting and preparing food samples and conducting microbiological and analytical tests
Conducting Shelf Life studies and organoleptic assessments of the products
Data entry, sample log and producing CoA’s for products
Positive Release of Finished Goods
Executing Environmental Monitoring and Swabbing Program
Preparing microbiological media and chemical reagents as needed
Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
Calibrating factory testing and measuring equipment
Managing laboratory supplies
Participating in proficiency testing program
Consolidating and verifying Production Monitoring Forms
Conducting Internal Audits of Quality Management System
Cooperating with external contractors and suppliers
Reporting to the Supervisor and escalating non-conformance to the QA Manager
Quality Control activities on the production floor
Working hours:
Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – with some overtime when required. Additionally, one Saturday per month (on average) would be required for approximately 4 hours, roster-based rotation. RDOs once per month. In rare circumstances, afternoon shift or night shift work might be required.
Ideal Candidate would need to:
Complete a Medical Screening and Police Check.
Be punctual, reliable and organised.
Pay high attention to detail regarding sample integrity, facts, figures, and relay information.
Have excellent communication skills.
Have critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Be a team player, cooperate and coordinate tasks on hand with other team members, and also work independently.
Capable of standing for long periods.
Have PC and Microsoft Excel skills.
Qualifications:
Laboratory and QC experience would be an advantage; however, full training will be provided.
