It is an exciting time to join DEECA's Legal and Legislation Division as it expands its Information Access and Privacy team.

About the job

Reporting to the Manager, Information Access, the Principal Adviser, Information Access performs a key role in leading the development of best practices and compliance with the department's obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and responding to Parliamentary orders for documents. The role is responsible for providing accurate and timely advice to department staff and members of the public and providing leadership to the team.

About you

You will have:

• Specialist knowledge and experience in the application of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
• Specialist knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of FOI legislation and FOI administration including decision making and evaluation of other legislation and case law.
• Experience in processing Parliamentary orders to produce documents is highly desirable.
• Experience in supervising junior officers.
• A passion for stakeholder engagement.

A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable, but not necessary.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience working in a similar role focusing on privacy and information access legislation and compliance requirements.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 2 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
