John Paul College is seeking a motivated and experienced Maintenance Officer to join our dedicated Property Services team.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with a trade or general maintenance background who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and service in a dynamic school environment.

Maintenance Officers play a key role in the upkeep and enhancement of the College’s buildings, grounds, and facilities.

The primary responsibility will be maintaining carpentry and general building fit-outs, while also contributing to a wide range of maintenance and logistical support activities across campus.

Regular duties of the role will include

Carry out carpentry and general building maintenance across the College.

Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.

Provide advice to the Maintenance Manager and Head of Facilities on the upkeep of buildings, furniture, equipment, and fittings.

Assist with construction and landscaping projects, either directly or through liaison with external contractors.

Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and plant in a safe and efficient manner.

Support the set-up and pack-down of College events and functions.

Ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and presentation across all College facilities.

Identify and report maintenance and safety issues promptly, taking preventative measures where appropriate.

Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.

Requirements for the Role

Trade background or equivalent experience in carpentry or general maintenance.

Previous experience in a school or similar environment is highly regarded.

Understanding and commitment to WHS requirements and safe work practices.

Great time management and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Good communicator with a positive, service-oriented mindset.

Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks.

Experience coordinating with external contractors is an advantage.

Maintenance Officers at John Paul College must meet the following essential criteria:

Positive Paid Blue Card / Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain before the start date).

Open and unrestricted Driver’s Licence.

Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain).

A friendly and approachable demeanour, along with good communication skills, will be essential for this role.
